Looking further afield could be perfect for sales recruitment

Firms looking to recruit sales staff could attract a wider variety of candidates and increased productivity if they looked further afield and allowed flexible working hours or working from home.

Hugo Harber, director of convergence and network strategy at Star (www.star.co.uk), said that by making better use of modern technology, sales staff can be recruited from all backgrounds and all areas of the UK.

"Phones, email, shared desktops, and web meetings can offer high levels of flexible working ... by providing integrated conferencing and collaboration tools you can reduce the need to travel and increase productivity," he stated.

The expert added that in exchange for more flexibility and less travel firms using sales recruitment can offer more modest wages and still attract new recruits.

A recent report by Frost & Sullivan found that conferencing services for marketing in Europe grew by 19.3 per cent in 2009, which supports Mr Harber's comments.
