The equality bill has been passed before the election deadline and will become law once it receives royal assent, those looking at sales jobs may be interested to discover.

Rachel Dineley, employment partner and head of the diversity and discrimination unit at Beachcroft LLP, has told Croner that the new legislation will make things easier to understand.

She says that the existing rules regarding discrimination are inconsistent and can be difficult to interpret.

"A single set of rules, and some simplified language, will be welcome, but with change come[s] challenges," she asserted.

Ms Dineley added that some of the changes companies will need to face will be the fact firms with 250 or more employees will be encouraged to publish statistics showing how they are tackling the gender gap.

In other news, earlier this week the government passed a bill which will allow successful applicants for sales jobs to have the right to request training at work.
