Woman jailed for telling lie on CV

The dangers of lying on a CV have been highlighted again after a woman was jailed for nearly six months.

Former Royal Navy employee Rhiannon Mackay, 29, earned more than £23,000 working for the NHS after claiming that she had two A-levels, the Plymouth Herald reported.

Those present at Plymouth Magistrates Court also heard how she forged a reference from her boyfriend.

Ms Mackay admitted fraud by making a false representation about the A-levels and also asked for 11 similar offences to be taken into consideration.

Jodie Baker, representing Ms Mackay, said that her client had applied for several jobs but had been unsuccessful.

"She started to embellish her CV with two A-levels. She had no idea that this misrepresentation could land her in jail," Ms Baker added.

Recently, Kerrie Devine, of Lympstone, Devon, was fined £9,600 and given a suspended prison sentence after being found to have lied on her CV.
