Unrelated jobs 'should not damage a CV'
People looking for employment who have had to take up an unrelated position during the recent economic downturn will find it does not damage their chances of getting an interview for a new role.
Peter Panayotou, senior analyst at the Write Stuff, said that such periods of employment should not have a negative effect on future progress.
"If there's a situation where you have taken a job that is completely unrelated or looks like it may be below their level, the priority would be perhaps not to highlight that so much in the CV," he added.
Mr Panayotou advised job candidates to restructure their CV in order to reflect their more relevant experience, which could include sales jobs.
This included creating a 'career history' section, followed by an 'other employment' segment.
His words came after research from Badenoch & Clark revealed that one in four professionals have been forced to take jobs they are over-qualified for because of the recession.
