'Image is key' to a bright sales recruitment future

People going through the sales recruitment process should look at their image if they want to be successful in the industry, according to an expert.

Shaf Rasul, writing for the Sun, said that he held a conference last week with new apprentices and advised them that it is important to look beyond what they want, but instead to look at what the prospective employer is after.

"A great example of how important image is came from a colleague who bought ten £4 bottles of water from an upmarket supermarket to impress a very chic design company. The agency was so struck with his image that they gave him a contract worth £50,000 a year," he added.

Mr Rasul added that doing research prior to a job interview was "vital", while also advising that from the first contact with a prospective employer, sales recruitment hopefuls need to be aware of how they project themselves.

The Dragon's Den star has recently been looking for three apprentices to work for him, with their image being a major part of what he is judging them on.
