More than 6,000 jobs created in culture and sport

At least 6,000 positions in culture and sport have now been created, including some sales jobs, according to an industry expert.

Secretary of state for culture, media and sport Ben Bradshaw said that progress towards the creation of 10,000 jobs for young people in the sector is now past the halfway point.

He revealed that nine months after the government first announced plans to fund employment opportunities, the department for culture, media and sport has now secured funding for over 60 per cent of posts.

"Jobs in the cultural and sports sectors can be hard to come by. It's often the case that the supply of potential employees outstrips demand, so it can be particularly hard for young people with little experience who are keen to take their first steps into the world of work," Mr Bradshaw added.

Recently, the Rochdale Observer reported that around 220 people in the region have started paid work placements, including some sales jobs, thanks to the government's Future Jobs Fund.
