Compensation paid after CV fraud
A man has been ordered to pay thousands of pounds in compensation after admitting embellishing his CV, serving as a warning to sales recruitment hopefuls.
The Swindon Advertiser reported that Lee Sutherland claimed he had a diploma in critical care when he applied for a position with the Great Western Ambulance Service NHS Trust.
However, the 34 year old had not obtained the qualification, despite having attended the course when he was a nurse in south Wales.
After working for the ambulance service for a year, Mr Sutherland then sent his CV to recruitment professionals in Cardiff where he again embellished his records.
Sutherland pleaded guilty to two counts of fraud at Swindon Crown Court and was asked to pay £2,000 and £800 in costs.
Passing sentence, judge Douglas Field said: "If you get a job with false qualifications you might be asked to do something you are not qualified to and cause harm to someone else."
Last month, Peter Panayotou, senior consultant at CV advice firm the Write Stuff, said that people hoping for sales recruitment success need to concentrate on selling themselves and using inspirational language rather than lying.
