Commons speaker's wife lost job over CV lie
The wife of Commons speaker John Bercow was sacked from a leading city firm after it claimed that she lied on her CV.
Sally Bercow was sacked by Consolidated Communications in the 1990s after it contacted Oxford University authorities and discovered that it had not granted her a degree.
Mrs Bercow was also accused of using 'multiple CVs' each containing different 'facts' about her background.
The speaker's wife attended Keble College between 1988 and 1990 and while she scored an upper second in her first year honour moderations, she left the university after just two years.
A spokesman for Mrs Bercow said that she had not misled the company as "anyone could work out" that she had only been at the college for two years and not three.
Last week people hoping for success in sales recruitment were warned about lying on their CVs after it emerged that 69 per cent of respondents to a HireScores.com survey said that they had told some form of lie to secure their job.
