Graduates are 'unprepared' for sales recruitment market
Universities should do more to help graduates prepare themselves for the job market, according to an industry expert.
Peter Panayotou, senior consultant for The Write Stuff, said that universities should consider it as part of their duty to offer sound career and CV advice to graduates.
He added: "There is always a need for someone with more specialised industry knowledge to give advice to graduates on pursuing their chosen career path and enhancing their CV in order to become more attractive to sales recruitment agencies."
His comments follow a report by the Higher Education Careers Services Unit which showed that nearly 65 per cent of students did not use their university's career service at all.
Mr Panayotou also commented on a report by the National Union of Students and HSBC which showed a trend for graduates opting for further education instead of looking for sales jobs.
He said that looking for employment would be a more sensible option as higher education would not necessarily make someone more employable.
