Sales jobs applicants 'should wear more supportive shoes'

Female sales jobs applicants should ensure they do not put their foot health at risk by wearing unsupportive shoes, an expert has warned.

Jo Cumming, helpline manager for Arthritis Care, claims that any injury to the joints in the ankle could lead to arthritis in later life.

She says that those who have developed the disease early should ensure they avoid exacerbating it by wearing comfortable shoes, such as those with cushioned soles.

Sales jobs applicants who are concerned about their joints should talk to their GP and could be prescribed special insoles which reduce the harm caused to their feet, she advises.

Ms Cumming says: "Also, the lighter you are on your feet the better … It's a good idea to eat healthy and stay active to help you keep your weight under control."

Earlier this month, spokesperson for the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists Lorraine Jones called for women to be given the choice of wearing healthier and more comfortable shoes in the workplace.
