Preparation is 'key' to successful graduate sales interviews
Interviews take a number of different forms in the modern day, meaning preparation could be the key to whether a candidate gets the job or not, according to an expert.
Lisa Jobson, director of talent at outsourcing service provider Harvey Nash, said that graduate sales hopefuls should be ready to tackle a number of different stumbling blocks on interview days.
She said that when in front of an interview panel, it is essential to identify who is who and what their role is within the company. She added that everyone on the panel should be addressed with eye contact, even if they appear to be taking a backseat in the process.
"In a group interview several applicants are interviewed at the same time so the client can assess their teamwork skills and how well they interact. Behaviour during the different exercises is considered predictive of behaviour once working for the company," she commented.
Graduate sales applicants should try not to be too aggressive or intimidated by the other candidates in these group scenarios, while it is also important to listen carefully to instructions while remaining natural and attentive.
