Gap years 'can help sales jobs candidates'
A gap year can help boost the chances of those applying for sales jobs, an expert claims.
Tom Griffiths, founder of gapyear.com, asserts that a candidate who has taken a break of this type can use it to engage in activities that will enhance their application.
He says that the current economic climate meant that this presented people with the opportunity to do something positive with their time.
"If you're unemployed, it's a negative - go on a gap year and make it a positive," he suggests.
Mr Griffiths states that among the advantages those applying for sales jobs could now be benefitting from include having developed a better sense of purpose, gaining skills and taking part in activities that could create skills or contacts for their careers.
Recent research by the Year Out Group found that the most popular way for people who took gap years in 2007 to spend this time was in teaching.
