'New techniques needed' in job search

Recruiters care less about a candidate's objectives than what they can bring to the firm, it has been stressed.

According to Donna Sweidan, founder of recruitment specialist Careerfolk and an expert in Linkedin branding strategies, seemingly small job search mistakes such as writing 'objectives' at the top of a resume can be costly, particularly in a competitive employment market.

"It's so important to seek out professional help to understand what is truly expected of you," she added.

"Employers and hiring managers don't really care what you're looking for - they want to see what you've got to offer … and how you might make a difference."

Ms Sweidan went on to say that candidates, such as those pursuing sales jobs, must understand they need to market themselves and create a personal brand in order to give themselves the best chance of finding a position.
