Be confident not cocky, jobseekers told
By Paul Goatman
Jobseekers should take pains to come across confident but not cocky in interviews, according to a marketing chief executive.
Joy Gendusa, head of PostcardMania, comments that as well as taking care of basics such as arriving early, preparing extra copies of a resume and bringing examples of past work and a list of references, candidates should be wary about how they come across.
She adds: "There is a fine line between confident and cocky and it's a different line for everyone.
"Take a breath before you walk in, relax and remember that the best way to get hired is to show them that you can relax under pressure."
Ms Gendusa went on to recommend writing a thank you note to the human resources director after the interview and following any instructions precisely.
Earlier this week, Patricia Justice, founder and principal of Justice Human Resources Consulting, commented that employers do not want to sift through all the things that a jobseeker can do or their full employment history so candidates should focus their CVs.
