Tailored sales pitch 'can strengthen CVs'
By Paul Goatman
A CV 'sales pitch' should be created and adapted for all roles that a jobseeker is applying for, it has been suggested.
Tony Restell, founding director of careers website Top-Consultant.com, states that the primary purpose of a CV is to secure an interview rather than land a job.
He added: "Whether you get the interview will depend on how much your CV excites the recruiter - and whether it ticks their boxes in terms of the profile of hire they are looking to make."
Mr Restell went on to say that CVs should include a three or four line career summary at the top to grab the readers' attention and this should be tailored to create a fit between the recruiter's key requirements and their first impressions of a candidate.
Earlier this week, blogger James Charles wrote for the Times that jobseekers should consider eschewing the traditional chronological format and opting for a performance or functional CV, which prioritises particular skills and experiences.
