CVs 'must be focused'
CVs should be well-laid out and tailored to the post a candidate is going for, a recruitment specialist has stated.
Writing for the Times, blogger James Charles stated that jobseekers should consider eschewing the traditional chronological format and opting for a performance or functional CV, which prioritises particular skills and experiences.
"Take the time to read over your CV from the perspective of a prospective employer. If something you have included sticks out or sounds unprofessional, remove it. It will confuse your potential employer too," he added.
Mr Charles went on to say the style in which a CV is written is also important and negative words or tired language should be omitted in favour of strong, positive and descriptive words which will impress a recruiter.
Last week, reporter Karen Hainsworth wrote for the Guardian that evidence of a balanced lifestyle and social skills can help candidates secure jobs in the current difficult economic climate.
