CVs 'must be honest'
By John Oak
While candidates cannot be held legally liable for what is in their CV, future employment may be affected by lying on a resume, it has been claimed.
According to Peter Panayotou, senior consultant for employment adviser The Write Stuff, any information presented to would-be recruiters should be as accurate as possible.
"You should be aware that a CV is a sales document, and is designed to cast you in the best possible light, but you should try to avoid outright lying," he added.
Mr Panayotou went on to say that jobseekers cannot be held liable for what is in their CV because it is not a legal document.
Research carried out by the Chartered Institute of Educational Assessors found 55 per cent of adults feel short-changed in terms of the way their CV highlights their full range of skills.
Around one-third admitted to having lied on or embellished their CV to boost their chances of getting a job.
