Volunteering 'can improve CVs'

Jobseekers can boost their CVs by taking volunteer career breaks, it has been claimed.

Nadia Daer, trekker coordinator for Gapforce, said volunteering can allow people to develop many skills which can then be put on a resume and shows that a candidate has made an effort to get involved in something that they feel is important.

She added: "You're always going to pick up lots of experience from working abroad. Definitely it will boost your CV … the fact that rather than sitting around or going on holiday, you did something worthwhile."

Ms Daer went on to say living in extreme environments and working with people from different cultures and social and economic backgrounds are all experiences that can bolster a CV.

Research carried out by Alternative Futures, on behalf of One Life Live, earlier this month found 84 per cent of those surveyed believe volunteering to be a good way to improve their employability.
