'Wide range of jobs' available in UK
There are many jobs available in the UK despite the news of recent redundancies in the retail and manufacturing industries, it has been claimed.
However, according to Dr John McGurk, advisor on skills and learning for the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, these opportunities may not necessarily be in the areas people are trained in.
Dr McGurk went on to say job seekers should take advantage of the government help being provided through initiatives such as Train to Gain and the Skills Pledge.
He continued: "Part of the issue is because of the dynamic nature of the economy, we don't really know what jobs will be available sometimes until they appear."
Dr McGurk added that there are currently vacancies available for people with the right training and more are likely to open up in the near future.
Figures released last month by the Office for National Statistics indicated the number of people in employment during the three months prior to October 2008 was 29.38 million, down 115,000 over the quarter.
