Interview questions 'can redeem silly answers'

Knowing how to ask the correct questions at the end of a job interview can be a useful technique for job candidates, it has been claimed.

According to David Emin, director of advertising at Mirror Group Newspapers, addressing this part of an interview correctly can mean allaying objections or doubts the interviewer might have before an applicant leaves, as well as correcting any daft answers given earlier.

Speaking to Media Week, Mr Emin commented: "I remember one job interview where I was asked 'What makes you tick?' Unfortunately, replying 'I didn't know I had a tick?' wasn't the answer she was looking for and it was hard to pull the interview back on course after that."

He went on to advise that candidates research the company they are approaching thoroughly and ask questions about the business that show they have a genuine interest and knowledge in the organisation.
