Recruitment prospects of ethnic groups 'should be boosted'
The government should do more to help the recruitment prospects of ethnic minorities, it has been claimed.
Research carried out jointly by the Universities of Oxford and Manchester suggests the employment prospects of some of Britain's ethnic minorities have failed to improve since the 1970s.
Professor Yaojun Li from the University of Manchester, said that in 2005, the employment situation for these groups was worse than it was 36 years ago in 1972.
"In other words Black Caribbean, Black African, Pakistani and Bangladeshi men have fallen well behind their White counterparts."
He added that previous government attempts to use legislation have failed to narrow the gap, although some hope was offered by proposals laid out in the Queen's speech earlier this month.
Last week, managing director of online recruitment portal Onrec.com David Hurst stated that job applicants should ensure they look at all possible recruitment websites before deciding where to upload their CV in the current difficult employment market.
