Workers 'should spend 20 minutes daily for lunch'

Workplaces should introduce a policy where workers must be away from their desks during lunch for a minimum of 20 to 30 minutes, an expert claims.

Registered dietician at the British Dietetic Association Dr Frankie Phillips claims it is in the best interest of businesses to implement a culture which allows people to take a break to refresh themselves, those looking at sales jobs may be interested to know.

"People are more productive when they have had a break so that there is a financial and economical benefit as well," she claims.

In a study produced by ActionAid, nearly 40 per cent of those working in human resources admitted they did not take a lunch break and ate at their desks.

Ms Phillips suggests implementing measures such as having a room for people to eat lunch in and chat can improve overall productivity.

The ActionAid survey found 20 per cent of employees ate lunch at their desks and 62 per cent took less than half an hour's break for this.
