Satnav instructions 'supersede sense'
Drivers are following satnav directions on rural roads, even when they appear to be wrong, according to a new study.
In news that may be of interest to people who drive in their sales jobs, more than a quarter of drivers using satnavs admit following its instructions even when they notice they are going the wrong way or into a narrow lane.
This figure rises to just under 50 per cent of people between the ages of 18 and 24, who may be in graduate sales jobs and rushing to a meeting in their car.
Ian Jewitt of NFU Mutual Risk Management Services highlighted the importance of savvy driving on country highways.
"It's particularly worrying that a quarter of satnav users continue to follow the gadget's instructions even when their eyes tell them they are heading up a farm track.
"This may account for some of the reports of vehicles stuck in fields and deep fords," he said.
A recent article in the Birmingham Mail claimed that satnav errors could be a thing of the past with new car technology.
