Giving CV liars the 'elbow' treatment
Businesses can help spot a liar in interview by looking out for a lack of arm movement, one psychologist has claimed.
According to Paul Seager, employers should avoid the stereotypical image of a liar in work scenarios, such as sales recruitment.
However, he offers a host of tips for catching the sales jobs cheat out, including spotting a lack of arm movement.
Among them he lists asking questions repeatedly until you get a yes or no answer and looking out for long answers to questions.
He told the Times: "Liars generally don't give yes-or-no answers."
Mr Seagers also suggested that the energy expended by lying means that someone telling a fib will often not use their arms.
Paula Fisher of Practical HR told Echo News that nearly one third of people lie on their CVs.
She added: "To back up CVs, we always recommend asking for referees and taking up those references. It's hard for people to make up references."
